The voice of Jiminy Cricket in Walt Disney's "Pinocchio", Cliff "Ukulele Ike" Edwards issued "Side By Side" (Harry Woods) in 1927. The single, edited here to include the vocal, reached number twelve on Billboard. He is backed by stalwarts Eddie Lang, Joe Venuti and Adrian Rollini. Composer Harry Woods composed on the piano despite the fact that he was born without fingers on his left hand.
Kay Starr (Starks) album "The Kay Starr Style" included the most successful recording of "Side By Side". The tune peaked at number three on Billboard, top ten in the U.K. in 1953. Wikipedia: " Starr was successful in every field of music she tried, such as jazz, pop, and country; but her roots were in jazz. Billie Holiday called her "the only white woman who could sing the blues".
