Ruth Etting's "Love Me Or Leave Me" (Walter Donaldson - Gus Kahn) was issued in 1929 and peaked at number two on the charts. Ruth sang the song in the 1928 Broadway production of "Whoopee!" starring Ruth and Eddie Cantor. The musical featured "Makin' Whoopie".
The MGM motion picture biopic of Ms. Etting also titled "Love Me Or Leave Me" starring Doris Day and James Cagney inspired the Sammy Davis Jr. version of "Love Me Or Leave Me" in 1955. The single from his self-titled LP reached number twelve. Sammy won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In Las Vegas Sammy Davis Jr. Drive intersects with Dean Martin Drive and Frank Sinatra Drive.
