Layng Martine, Jr. wrote "Way Down" and this track is from the two CD set "Writing For The King" and was the demo which included the J.D. Sumner bass part. Layng also authored "Rub It In" and "Should I Do It".
Elvis Presley recorded the LP "Moody Blue" in 1977 with the track "Way Down" recorded in his home studio at Graceland. The title may refer to J.D. Sumner's last note or the fact that this was the last single released by The King before his death. When Elvis died this was number one on the Country chart. Eventually the song got to number eighteen on the Top One Hundred and fourteen on the A.C. chart.
