The Allman Brothers Band (Gregg and older brother Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Jai Johanson, Berry Oakley and Butch Trucks) issued "Midnight Rider" (Gregg Allman - Robert Kim Payne) in 1970 from the LP "Idlewild South". The single didn't chart. Wikipedia: " The album's title came from the band's nickname for a $165-a-month cabin it rented on a lake outside of Macon early in its days there, the busy comings and goings at which reminded them of New York City's Idlewild Airport."
Gregg Allman's album "Laid Back" included the hit version of "Midnight Rider" as the first track. Released in 1973 the single peaked at number nineteen on Billboard. Gregg was married seven times including several years with Cher.
