Singing cowboy Stuart Hamblen wrote and recorded "It Is No Secret (What God Can Do) in 1950. The single peaked at number eight on the Country chart. Stuart turned to substance abuse and was saved by the late Billy Graham. A friend asked him about the rumour that Stuart had changed his ways. Mr. Hamblen replied that it was no secret what God had done for him and what God could do for his friend, too. The friend then replied that Hamblen should turn those lines into a song.
Bill Kenny of the Ink Spots recorded "It Is No Secret" with the Song Spinners on the 1951 album "Precious Memories".
It was Jo Stafford and husband Paul Weston's Orchestra who had the pop hit with "It Is No Secret" the same year when it reached number fifteen.
