"Taking A Chance On Love" (Latouche - Fetter - Duke) was prominent in the 1940 play and the 1943 Vincente Minnelli directed motion picture "Cabin In The Sky" where it was sung by Ethel Waters and Eddie "Rochester" Anderson. Wikipedia article on Ethel's life in Philadelphia: "On her 17th birthday, she attended a costume party at a nightclub on Juniper Street. She was persuaded to sing two songs and impressed the audience so much that she was offered professional work at the Lincoln Theatre in Baltimore. She later recalled that she earned the rich sum of ten dollars a week, but her managers cheated her out of the tips her admirers threw on the stage."
Big band singer Helen Forrest (Fogel) with Benny Goodman and his Orchestra saw their version of "Taking A Chance On Love" top the charts in 1943. Fletcher Henderson arranged the recording.
