Sister Wynona Carr released "Operator, Operator" (Carr - Parker) in 1954. The "Sister" was added to her name when she sang gospel.
The Manhattan Transfer (Tim Hauser, Laurel Masse, Alan Paul and Janis Siegel) had their first chart single with an adaptation of the original. "Operator" (William Spivery) hit in 1975 when the tune peaked at number twenty-two on Billboard. The self titled album peaked in the Billboard top forty.
