It didn't chart for Merry Clayton who backed Bobby Darin on "You're the Reason I'm Living" but Merry was the first to record "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss) (Rudy Clark) in 1963. The tune had been rejected by The Shirelles. Bobby Darin who owned the company staff composer Rudy Clark worked with (TM Music) arranged to have Merry signed to Capitol Records and have her record with famed producer Jack Nitzche. Composer Rudy Clark's cataloque includes "Got My Mind Set On You", "Good Lovin'", "Everybody Plays the Fool" and "If You Can Make a Fool of Somebody".
Betty Everett hit the top ten pop and R&B the next year with her cover from the album "You're No Good".
Cher recorded her version of "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)" in 1990 for the soundtrack of the film "Mermaids". The single hit number one in the U.K. and peaked in Billboard's top forty. Cher also had the song as a track on her album "Love Hurts" in most of the world, with the exception to the U.S.
