MacArthur Park was named after General Douglas MacArthur. The former Westlake Park is now designated as an Historic Cultural Monument in Los Angeles.
Jimmy Webb composed "MacArthur Park" in 1967 as part of a cantata. He took the entire effort to The Association who rejected it.

Later that year Jimmy Webb met actor Richard Harris who recorded the song for his 1968 album "A Tramp Shining". The single peaked at number two on Billboard and number ten Easy Listening. At the session were the famous Wrecking Crew and Jimmy Webb on harpsichord. The next year "MacArthur Park" became a Grammy winner.

Donna Summer's disco hit from 1978 topped the Billboard Top One Hundred. This is the edited single from the album "Live and More".
